No, your not reading this wrong, this site is called plenty more fish, not plenty of fish and yes, they are two completely different dating sites. For those of you who are confused, Plenty of fish or “POF”, the one you are probably thinking of, this is the biggest dating site in the world. Plenty more fish on the other hand is only really a UK brand.
This site is not free and is probably only a fraction of the size of POF, however, because of the similarities, this site will also be hugely popular simply due to the amount of people who will be looking for “plenty of fish” and find this site instead. In fact, the owner of POF, Marcus Frind is very aware of this and has tried to take legal action against plenty more fish several times but has lost every time.
So what do we know about Plenty more fish?
It is a paid service and has two main sub brands attached to it, plenty of silver fish (for members over 50) and plenty of naughty fish (for people who are looking for sex- basically…men)
Many dating sites have started doing sub categories in order to catch as many “fish” in their net as possible. With paid advertising, companies often have to pay for every time someone clicks on a advert to their site, so “sub dating sites” are great for making sure as many people sign up as possible.
The company has done some TV advertising with the below advert (sorry, clearly this has been recorded off a tv but its the only copy I can find). TV advertising costs thousands so we know this company has a lot of money behind it.
So what do you all think of the site?
1. Have you tried it? What were you first thoughts?
2. What are the pros and cons of using the site?
3.Is it better or worse than POF?
4.Did you sign up thinking you were signing up to Pof? Could you tell the difference? Did you realise you were on the wrong site?
5. Are you bombarded with Junk mail the moment you signed up?
6. What would you say to someone who was thinking of using the service?
Social
Surprisingly, this is one of the few dating website we have seen that doesn’t have much of as social presence. They don’t even have any links off their home page to their twitter or facebook accounts.
Competitors
Obviously the saying “there are plenty more fish in the sea” is a very well know phrase associated with dating so lots of sites have used a spin off of this for their dating brand. To name a few, we have plenty more fish.net, fish 4 dating, fish dating, and of course POF.com. Take your pick.
